The Great Oggy Hunt

How to do the Oggy Hunt with your own section?

Whether on a camp, or going out in the Park, you can recreate the Oggy Hunt easy for all sections and ages!

Younger Sections

Give them a list of 10 things to spot, allow a Leader/Young Leader to go with them (you can even plant an object like a mascot for them to locate). If it’s Cubs age, provide them with a digital camera and show them how to use before setting off. Note that some younger sections can’t read well, so use graphics too (though the Leader is available to assist). Still give them one hour, go in a small team and when everyone has finished, get together and either show the results on a big screen or let another team mark them off together. It’s a great way of letting them be inspired and use technology as well as being offline and wandering around a local area / campsite.

Older Sections

Give them a list of 10 things to find, video and photos. They can either go in small groups or individually. If you’re at a larger camp (such as a Jamboree or District/County camp) why not let them interact with other groups, such as a neckerchief with red in it, etc. If they have their phones, they can take the photos themselves, if not have some alternative backups such as digital cameras available. Also let them be creative, put “spot a hedgehog” but if there are no hedgehog’s available how are they going to get it? Remind them to think outside the box!
